For the lay reader who knows about the events of 1914 and the circumstances of the Goeban and Breslau being in Mediterranean and causing so much consternation to the RN Admiralty this is an eye opening 'excuse' from one of the principal scapegoats in the episode.
Admiral Milne is incandescent regarding his treatment by the Admiralty in their official history. Here he sets forward his case. It is well worth remembering that the Goeban's escape to Turkey led to hundreds of thousabds of additional deaths in the Great War. Winston Churchill referred to the Geoban as "the ship that changed the world"
